Why is it that June weddings are the most popular time of year to get married?
June is named after the Roman goddess Juno, who symbolizes love, marriage and the welfare of women. It is therefore considered good luck to be married in the month of June! Of course, there are other theories too – during the Middle Ages people bathed more frequently in warmer months and flowers were in abundance, two more solid reasons to marry in the month of June. One does like to smell good on their wedding day! This year feels like an embodiment of June’s deeper meaning – growth. As the year closed off in 2020 I photographed three small weddings, all outdoors, and all very intimate. Masks, hand sanitizer, and a lot of precautions were made. There was anxiety, and angst over what to do, do we have a small wedding, or wait till next year? For me, it helped me see what marriage, not just a wedding really means. The couples that choose to get married knew that in their hearts, the wedding wasn’t as important as the marriage. And this in and of itself was so meaningful. We’re officially in the wedding season swing! And, I have to tell you, I had nearly forgotten what life at this pace requires. From packing up equipment, a sore back, and editing, it’s wonderful to be back. As we spend this month diving head first into life as it was, I can’t help but feel that we are forever changed. Do you feel it? Everything is just a bit different than before. I mean how could it not be? Will we carry the lessons of a closed world with us as the pace quickens, our calendars fill up, and people flood the dance floors once again? I sure hope so. In the meantime, if you are looking to book your wedding photographer for next June, now is the time to book. |
